In recent years, ‘TVOC’ (Total Volatile Organic Compounds) has become a term attracting increasing attention, especially regarding indoor air quality issues. It is not just a chemical term, but an invisible threat that affects health and even life safety. Did you know? It’s not only scientific research that points out the dangers — there are real cases in both Taiwan and abroad that serve as a wake-up call.
Kindergarten Renovation Scare: Children's Health at Risk
In 2019, a kindergarten in northern Taiwan had just completed renovations. After the school term began, children gradually began experiencing symptoms such as headaches, red and swollen eyes, and difficulty breathing, prompting alarmed parents to call the police. Testing revealed that the TVOC concentration inside the classrooms far exceeded safety standards, mainly originating from newly applied wallpaper and paint. The incident drew media attention, forcing the kindergarten to suspend classes and carry out a complete air purification process. This case highlighted the dangers of TVOC emissions from renovation materials and served as a reminder to all parents and educational institutions to prioritize air quality.
Office Air Quality Issues: Employee Health Impacted
In Hong Kong, the government implemented the ‘Indoor Air Quality Certification Scheme for Offices and Public Places’ in 2003 to improve indoor air quality. The scheme pointed out that excessively high TVOC concentrations in offices may cause employees to experience headaches, dry eyes, throat discomfort, and even reduced work efficiency. Therefore, the government recommends that offices regularly test air quality and take measures to lower TVOC levels in order to protect employee health.
International Factory Case: The Lung Disease Crisis from Long-Term Exposure
Overseas, cases of factory workers developing lung diseases due to long-term exposure to high concentrations of TVOCs are not uncommon. Many of these workers operate in poorly ventilated environments, inhaling harmful gases over extended periods, which leads to chronic pneumonia and pulmonary fibrosis, posing a serious threat to their health and lives. Related reports and studies have repeatedly called for strengthened air monitoring and protective measures in workplaces.
WHO’s Scientific Evidence: Just How Dangerous Are TVOCs?
According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), TVOC stands for ‘Total Volatile Organic Compounds,’ a collective term for chemicals commonly found in everyday products such as paints, furniture, adhesives, and cleaning agents. These substances are released into indoor environments, invisible yet capable of irritating our eyes, nose, and throat, causing breathing discomfort, and even triggering headaches, fatigue, allergies, and asthma.
More importantly, some components of TVOCs, such as formaldehyde and benzene, have been classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as human carcinogens. Long-term exposure to high concentrations of TVOCs can greatly increase health risks.
The WHO recommends that indoor TVOC concentrations should be kept below 0.3 mg/m³ (i.e., 300 micrograms per cubic meter). Levels above this threshold may harm health. This is especially true in newly renovated spaces or places with new furniture, where TVOC levels are often higher, and poor ventilation allows these harmful substances to accumulate, exposing families to dangerous air.

Why did Sysinno design the iAeris Air Quality Detector?
Facing the invisible threat of TVOCs, why did Sysinno invest resources in developing the iAeris? The answer is simple:
Filling the Market Gap:Most air quality detectors on the market lack accuracy and cannot truly capture TVOC levels that affect health. The iAeris uses industrial-grade sensors to precisely measure TVOC concentrations in the air, allowing users to truly understand the air quality in their homes and offices.
Protecting the Health of Every Home and Workplace:Sysinno believes that air quality is the first line of defense for health. Whether it’s parents with young children at home or office workers facing heavy workloads every day, the iAeris can provide real-time alerts about air quality issues, enabling you to take effective ventilation or purification measures.
Professional Services and Continuous Improvement:Sysinno not only sells devices but also provides comprehensive data analysis (uploading data to the Air Quality Cloud Platform) and air quality improvement solutions (integration with air purification equipment), helping users create healthy and comfortable living and working environments.
How Can iAeris Help You?
Real-Time Monitoring: Accurately monitor multiple air quality indicators, including TVOCs, formaldehyde, and PM2.5.
Smart Alerts: Receive notifications when air quality is abnormal, prompting you to ventilate or purify immediately.
Data Visualization: Easy-to-understand interface that lets you track air quality changes at any time.
Versatile Applications: Suitable for homes, schools, offices, and medical facilities, providing health protection wherever needed.
The dangers of TVOCs are no longer just abstract scientific terms; they are health risks lurking around us every day. Whether in kindergartens, offices, or homes, real-life incidents continue to sound the alarm.
